Subject: A C Update#final7
Last report coming to you from NZ - we lost the last race by 1 second -
how's that for a close finish? Called the most exciting America's Cup
race ever, the lead changed 5 times so we didn't know till the very end
that the fat lady had sung and it was all over for Team NZ. All NZ is
disappointed that we didn't quite get there, but we're very proud that
our team did so well considering we were so much the underdog.
After the 1st beat Alinghi rounded 7 seconds ahead, but Team NZ caught
up to round the bottom mark 17secs in front. During the next beat, the
boats were very close and Team NZ stupidly got themselves into a
position where Alinghi unnecessarily did a big luff up and hoisted a
protest flag. The race officials upheld the protest and we lost the race
by having to do a 360 turn before crossing the line. They didn't quite
make it!!! JUST 1 SECOND IS ALL IT TOOK.
Hope you've received and enjoyed my messages over the last few weeks,
even though, as brother Terry says, they were a bit biased - what do you
expect from a keen NZ yachtie! Over and out, cheers, Robin NZ
